Non-Competitive Patrols

Entering as a non-competitive Patrol gives you the opportunity to experience the Emlyn without being judged.  You'll camp in exactly the same way as the competing Patrols (i.e on your own site without leaders) and you'll be able to do all the things that the competing Patrols are doing (e.g. cooking on open fires, taking part in activities with Scouts from across the county).

The judges will still come and visit your site, but instead of awarding/deducting marks, they'll explain what kinds of thing they look for, what makes a Patrol really stand out, and some of the pitfalls to avoid.  The camp staff will also be happy to help you out if you're having trouble getting your tents up, or getting your fire going, or any other aspect of the camp (as we do for the competing Patrols too).

You'll have the opportunity to look round and see how the competing Patrols are camping and hopefully by the end of the weekend, you'll have improved your camping skills.  If you feel ready in future, we'd be delighted to see you back as a competing Patrol, but there's no obligation to do so if you just want to come and camp as a Patrol for the experience.

Leaders of non-competing Patrols are welcome to join the camp staff for the weekend if they wish, or pop out for a visit.  Please arrange this in advance (via the Contact Us page), so we know who to expect and when.  Leaders without a non-competing Patrol are also welcome to join us or visit to see how the event is operated if you are interested in entering a Patrol (competitive or not) in future.
